AdamsonJones provides intellectual property (IP) services encompassing patent, design and trade mark protection and advice in the UK, Europe and throughout the world. The firm works with an expanding list of sophisticated and demanding clients, ranging from innovative start-ups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to multinational corporations and internationally renowned universities. AdamsonJones also represents the clients of its overseas associates in proceedings before the UK Intellectual Property Office (UK IPO), the European Patent Office (EPO) and European Union Intellectual Property Office.
The firm
Established in 2000 by Dr Steve Jones as a single-practitioner firm, the business has since grown to a mid-sized IP boutique. Since 2004, the firm has been based at BioCity Nottingham, the UK’s largest bioscience and healthcare innovation centre. Due to continued growth a second office was opened in May 2014 at MediCity Nottingham, an innovation hub for innovators in consumer healthcare, medical technology, diagnostics and beauty products. The firm’s presence at BioCity and MediCity allows the team to spend time getting to know businesses operating within these sectors, resulting in a deeper understanding of the commercial considerations, technical nature of the products and services as well as the IP issues that these clients face.
The initial growth of AdamsonJones was due to its focus on core areas of expertise within the fields of pharmaceuticals, healthcare and medical devices. Over more recent years the firm has diversified by applying the same level of industry expertise to the areas of advanced engineering and software. The recruitment of high-calibre personnel alongside the continual acquisition of new clients has resulted in the ongoing growth of the company and its reputation.
AdamsonJones is committed to achieving the highest standards of quality in the work that it does and the quality of its team is critical to that objective. The firm has an excellent record of developing its patent assistants and training them through to qualification as UK and European patent attorneys. The technical team offers an engaging and vibrant blend of youth and experience, with most attorneys holding at least Masters degrees and the majority having attained first-class honours in their first degrees.
